Born and raised on the tough streets of Chicago, Morgan has won 75 awards in his illustrious career for Best Director, Best International Film, Best Short Film and Best Comedy Short. An ordained rabbi, Morgan is also the creator of Sheldon Mashugana, which recently premiered in Plano, Texas. In addition to Sheldon, the Second City native started another new character, The Macher, who—according to Dean—is funnier than Sheldon, with both comedic styles being vastly different, as Sheldon is more Jerry Lewis slapstick and The Macher is more obnoxious.

Below is my Q and A with Dean, as we discuss the current Israel-Hamas war, and his hope for peace, his background in comedy and influences as well ad exciting new projects that he has in the works.

1.) What are your thoughts on the recent writers strike? How has it impacted you and what do you hope will make things better in the industry?

I am nonunion for now, so my productions are still on going. In fact, I’m shooting a feature film right now. However in the streaming area, pertaining to the actors’ strike, we are not getting paid for showing me online. So in that respect, it would be fair for us to be paid for that.  As for the writers’ strike, on my end it’s not bothering me at all since I write all my films.

2.) As an ordained rabbi, what are your thoughts on the recent Hamas attack on Israel, and what do you think can be done in terms of establishing a lasting peace?

They need a common ground and organization to plan that out. They also need to educate that region due to the fact that a lot of them are taught to kill Jews and laugh and have fun, then die. They need to learn the normal way of life, as we know it here in the States, in order for them to have any peace. So they need to get a good and proper education.

3.) How did your career get started?

I’ve been interested in comedy all my life. I had a friend in college ask me to try out for Second City. I was 19 years old and I passed the audition. When that happened, I found out that I was made to act.

4.) For those who don’t know, tell us more about The Macher and some of your recent work?

In Chicago, there is a radio station called the Loop. They had this program on April fool’s day that was a little over the top for its time. On that show there was a program on Sheldon Mashugana called Little Brown Things That Float in the Water. After that I was hooked on Sheldon. I then created Sheldon as a Where’s Waldo guy with a different voice and put those plastic glasses on him. We made 12 films, which include 5 features and the rest are shorts. We won over 300 film festival awards.

The Macher was made based on my Chicago personality with the swear words, and I decided to ask and answer the questions myself when talking to people or the audience. I tried it as an experiment. I put it on Tiktok and it went viral. Everyone loves this guy. He doesn’t even smile. I’m making a feature for him right now.

5.) Who were your influences growing up, and how did they influence you?

I always liked space stuff, so William Shatner was my guy to get me to the stars. I was a meteorology major and wanted to work in space. So we went with the weather aspect instead. And then we have the Saturday Night live Bunch that taught me the comedy. I looked a little like John Belushi so I figured I could do a lot with that. But as for Sheldon, Jerry Lewis, The Three Stooges, and Mel Brooks were my guys.

6.) How excited are you for Sheldon Mashugana premiering?

I have a contract with United Artists in France thru Cannes film festival. Bridge of Peace they call it. They are premiering Sheldon Mashugana this week in Japan. I’m really excited that I was able to get the films out there. We are going to be streaming on Elevated Artist entertainment which is working with Hulu. I am currently on Opprime.TV and Vimeo.com 

7.) Any future projects down the pipeline you would like to mention?

The film we are shooting today is called The Macher in Mr Big.  The Macher getting into trouble with girls and the internet. Rated R. Feature film. The 3 full length Sheldon Movies we are looking for producers for are then following. What a Schmuck is about Sheldon figuring out life and getting into trouble all the time on the way. The next film is Sheldon Mashugana Gets Lost in Space; I’m combining the Lost in Space idea with Star Trek. Sheldon and his family get chosen to go to Uranus and end up lost in space. The 3rd movie is Sheldon Mushagana Goes Back to the Future. Sheldon and James go back in time and try to fix the invention of the Woopy cushion. Those are all comedy. I have scripts ready to go for all 3.

8.) Any lasting and parting thoughts, or comments for those hoping to get into the industry and what to do and expect?

When going into the industry you need to stay 15 years or nobody will know you. The more contacts you know the better you will be.  Auditions are also about marketing yourself. If you don’t get the part it’s okay. You may get another part in the same film, it happened to me several times.

While Fashion Week already has what is known as the “Big Four” featuring New York, Paris, London and the aforemention Milan, thanks to the emergence of other notable fashion weeks in Miami, Los Angeles and Dubai 1,758 miles to the south east in the ultra-luxirious United Arab Emirates, could Almaty be the fashion hub of Central Asia?

Thanks to the efforts of Bauyrzhan Shadibekov, Founder and CEO of the recently concluded VISA Fashion Week Almaty this past weekend, the so-called “southern capital” of  Kazakhstan, could be well on it’s way to becoming one.

Below is my Q and A with Mr. Shadibekov, as we discuss the Silk Road, the future of Almaty, VISA Fashion Week and the promising future of being the new Eurasian capital of fashion.

1. For those that don’t know, but Almaty has a rich history and connected to the storied Silk Road, how are you hoping to tap into that rich legacy and bring it to the world of fashion?

– Almaty combines many different cultures, lifestyles, ideas. It is a city of diversity and versatility when it comes to all aspects of life, from people to architecture, from cuisines to activities. This kind of mix is the exact thing that inspires creative people to create. Almaty is a perfect place with infinite sources of inspiration for designers, photographers, editors, influencers and other people from fashion world. This city is the ground for people to bring their vision and ideas into reality

2. New York, London, Paris, Milan and now Dubai. Being the fashion and cultural capital of Kazakhstan and Central Asia, what is your vision of VISA Fashion Week?

– This event gives people a chance to share what they have created as well as enhance their sense of beauty, and inspiration to grow within the industry. For example, designers with experience and the ones who just start their careers share one podium and work side by side. It creates an amazing exchange of experience and a fresh view. As well as createing a healthy competition

3. What unique features do you think that Almaty can offer as opposed to the “Big Five”?

– Almaty boasts a distinctive allure rooted in its rich tapestry of Central Asian culture and history. Its beauty is unrivaled, evident in every facet – from its diverse flora and fauna to the unique customs, warm-hearted inhabitants, flavorful cuisine, intricate ornaments, soulful music, and captivating art. Central Asia’s profound history has shaped our present, a narrative deserving of global acknowledgment.

4. Are there any big name designers and brands that we should expect to see over in Almaty this season—or in the future?

– Every brand featured this season brings a remarkable quality to the table, a prerequisite for their participation. These brands enjoy significant local acclaim. Additionally, we’re proud to showcase the winner of the Next Designer Award, a testament to its burgeoning success among the most gifted young designers in Kazakhstan, securing its spot as the foremost talent in the industry.

5. Who were your influences and role models growing up?

– There is no specific person in mind. I would say I was always admiring people with strong vision and sense of purpose in any industry. Those are the people who push us as a society forward

6. What are your long-term goals and ultimate vision of what VISA Fashion Week could be?

– VISA Fashion Week is like this awesome mashup of the hottest fashion trends and the coolest innovations, all served up as a killer art show for everyone to enjoy. Seriously, there are no rules holding this event back, and that’s what makes it so unique.

7. For anyone who has never come to Almaty, or Kazakhstan, what would you recommend, and why should they come?

– Almaty has some go-to spots that pretty much anyone familiar with the city would suggest. I’d advise, when you’re here, just roll with it, embrace the local vibe, and that’s the ultimate way to soak up the city’s charm.

8. Any last words, advice or things you wish to say to those hoping to come to VISA?

– Everyone who is attending the event is someone with purpose, vision and mission. That is why we value each and every guest, each one is contributing. So I want to sincerely thank everyone who is a part of it!

@melissalahur commented that this EP made up of 3 songs: “El Mismo Cuento”, “Bebo x TI” and “Agradezco”, are the three original songs and each of them includes a beautiful acoustic version.

Regarding the most innovative element of the EP that will be presented at the end of November in the city of Miami and will be available in digital format, the singer considered that it tells a story from two points of view. “It’s an EP that talks about a complete story in which every single is a moment of heartbreak.” “It’s an EP that talks not only about what I once lived, but about what many people have experienced when we’ve been heartbroken by a love that wasn’t.”

When talking about the message he gives to his fans with this EP being his authorship with Daniel Zam; in the composition, music and arrangements Pedro Venochea (Sonopete), and in the guitars Daniel Uribe, Melissa Láhur said “That little by little we learn to overcome each obstacle, that when we review the past objectively we see ourselves as heroes and heroines of our history and not as victims, we realize that we have in our hands to move forward, to be better and learn to fly high and alone.”

The singer, actress and voice over talent stated that her dream would be to make a song with Ha-Ash, Carlos Rivera and Paty Cantú.

To conclude, @melissalahur said “for 2024 the album is coming and with it we hope to be touring in different cities and participating in several festivals of independent artists”.

This led to a lot of insecurity and low self-esteem that Malori would suffer from for years to come. She found an advertisement in “Beat”, a popular magazine at the time made for young teen girls.

The advertisement was for “Barbazon” a modeling school that would be three hours away from her home in West Virginia. She approached her mom asking to enroll, her mom was hesitant to approve due to finances at the time, but the following year, she was financially able to give Malori those classes and start her on her path to where she is today.

Malori is a 5’6 country girl born and raised in a small town with big dreams and even bigger talent. What she lacked in height she more than made up for with heart.

For 14 weeks straight, Malori’s mom would make the grueling six hour drive to take her to this modeling school in Akron, Ohio and supported her growth and dreams as any mother should. Malori went on to do promotional work and advertisements for many companies such as Dove, Suave, Pantene, laundry detergent and more but this was not where she planned on stopping.

Malori went on to compete in modeling competitions in New York, Fashion Print, Cold Read, and more and went on to win the Cold Read award out of 400 people.

From that point on, she went to auditions and competed just trying to get that “Big Break” which came later in the form of a referral from a good friend in the industry. She then began modeling for fashion designer Brian David Jones (Thompson) and her career finally blossomed.

Malori went on to model in New York Fashion Week, Pittsburgh Fashion Week, Boston Fashion Week, and has been featured in Aspiring Lives Magazine, Oscars Gala’s, and so much more.

Malori credits a lot of her success to Brian David Jones for taking a chance and recognizing her talent. In an industry that is notoriously exclusive to 5’10 skinny, and competitive women, the petite 5’6 kindhearted Malori made her big splash.

Malori plans to model in any way she can for as long as she can, even joking about modeling senior citizen products one day. Behind the scenes she has also began teaching young students interested in the modeling industry, coaching, and judging for pageants, volunteering at her church to work with babies and children, and even takes time to care for the disabled and elderly.

Malori comes from a family full of love and support, her mom and grandmother (she calls her mimi) being her biggest cheerleaders as she followed her dreams.

She also recently got the opportunity to give some of that support back when her family adopted 3 beautiful children, and her now 14-year-old adoptive brother started his own small tumbler company.

Her brother Allen is a bright boy on the autism spectrum who uses his business to bring awareness and to inspire others with autism to follow their dreams. Malori is just about as involved as a loving sister could be not only supporting her adoptive brothers dreams and Allen’s business, but being involved in their education, hobbies, class trips, and just about anything to keep her close to them to show them how absolutely loved her siblings truly are.

When asked what advice she would offer to young people interested in the modeling industry, Malori got very serious and said,

“Never go to an audition or anything by yourself, there are bad people out there (touching on sex trafficking, assault and more) Always take someone you trust with you. And if you must give them money for them to hire you, its not legitimate.

Paying for your own photos is one thing, but nobody should ever pay to work for someone. You don’t pay Walmart to work at Walmart, modeling is no different. Also remember to stay humble, stay kind, and never give up. You will get a thousand no’s but one day there will be that one yes you have been waiting for.”

One message Malori would love to spread across the world is “help those in need, be kind and humble, spend time with the ones you love, never let anyone disrespect you, smile, tip your server and return your shopping cart, love yourself and say your prayers and put the Lord first. Always remember Jesus loves you and take care of and love the children for they are our future. And be kind to animals.”

While other subjects didn’t quite capture her curiosity, she found herself willing to pull all-nighters to really understand math. “It was not a natural talent”, she says, “it was just my love for the subject.” Over time, Dr. Harna scored exceptionally well in Mathematics. Fueled by her desire to be a mathematician, she majored in Math, defying the expectations of her immigrant parents, which often prioritized careers in medicine or engineering.

Embracing her passion for mathematics, Henna earned a Bachelor’s in Mathematics and later pursued a Master’s in Applied Mathematics, a Doctorate, and later, an MBA from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Mathematics became Henna’s strength, propelling her towards remarkable achievements in the corporate world. She began her corporate career as an actuarial associate, gradually climbing to executive vice president, chief data officer, and general manager at innovative firms like Google Cloud, AXA, Verisk Analytics, and AIG. Her success is evidenced by the substantial revenue growth achieved by these firms during her tenure.

Guided by her relentless commitment to making a difference, Henna seeks to redefine the principles of digital tech using data and analytics. She speaks at conferences on the intersection of Data and Technology, its importance on Emotional Intelligence, and the foundation of meaningful Digital Experiences.
